Column One ‎– The Last One Is Dead

From 1998 on Cut-Up Construction Recs, a disgusting artefact from Column One in a limited edition of 300 handmade copies, 'with blood, urine, shit..etc..', as it says on their site. Approach with caution and wearing surgical gloves, probably. So I did. Surprisingly, it doesn't stink. Neither does the music which, if you know Column One, is quite typical of their approach to sampled, looped, 'ambient' sound; the emphasis here being on horror, body horror and as they say: 'The reality of death in the media (..in which media here also include mental projection or transformation.) … the ability to represent death?'. CO's revulsion/fascination with mediated images, control, exploitation etc is surely made manifest in the ultimate fashion with this handmade object...the repulsive nature of the media machine twinned with what we are physically repulsed by, especially when it comes from someone else's body, presenting the 'reality' of our biological selves and a creeping kind of hallucinatory sonic hell...
