Consulate - Black Narcissus (Portals Editions)

....welcome to Cold War Two....drones overhead, jet fighter down, diplomacy disintegrates, spy vs spy......it ain't over...............
...........................Consulate's Black Narcissus captures the mood, as does much of what I've been hearing over the last few weeks.....all this dread transformed into the sound of blackness, active terror, shredded beats, coarse textures.......an album 'informed by the Cold War; European football culture; hardcore; World War II; breakbeat techno; flare smoke & the Südtribüne' says the blurb & it sounds like it....
...Ultras...an Italian football crew all flares and flick-knives, masked eyes & a bass throb/heartbeat of fear...terrace terror not as chants and violence but here, the (D&)B-line menace, classic trigger cocked threat of things to come - ghosts of Jungle's life still stalking modern music...again on Italian Grin - the terminator is out there, somewhere...break the (drum) break until it becomes a swishing historical reference...strong stuff.............................................Panzer rolls to an industrial-Tech beat, relentless....switch the rhythm up...over 8mins, still, time flies when it feels like you've so little left...................
& Consulate makes the most of time here; stretching, condensing, pummelling, cutting as he goes, creating an unyielding mood along the way....it's not the stuff of dreamy entertainment, but it is the stuff of harsh reality today....

Release date: December 4. Check Portals Editions Bandcamp site
