Aaron Dilloway & Jason Lescalleet - Popeth (Glistening Examples)

'When I cam across a monster who was sleeping by a tree...and I looked and frowned and the monster was me'..............isn't that one of David's greatest lines? A favourite of mine, anyhow - to the extent that I sing it on a regular basis......perhaps there's a reason for that which psychoanalysts could extract, eh? There are no lyrics here that could embed themselves, but that doesn't mean it's not possible that listening to music, so much instrumental music, doesn't oil the gateway to all those songs - that's LJ's theory and I think she might be right. Let's try humming along to Black Mountain, the 19-minute opener on
Popeth.......'Mmmmmmmm....mmmmmmm......mmmmmmmm' - rubbish, it doesn't work........the track does, though; works brilliantly when it comes to worming it way into your brain box on waves of static frisson after 6 mins of storm-cloud-on-the-horizon sonics.................mmm.....that ol' building tension trick never fails...well, it does in lesser hands than those belonging to Aaron Dilloway and Jason Lescalleet........
stealth corruption/control.............until, by about halfway, you're a wide-eyed candidate for....buying all their records, perhaps.................the long drift into a twilight zone where something stirs..........then that voice talking about a gun in his right hand (?)...........that's all and that's enough, no over baked Horror samples, just more of the dread-filled space. The closing track: Ewch I Gysgu, Popeth..........what? So there is a lyric here, of sorts.........sounds like 'Everything grows a seed', pitched down a little..........repeated throughout.........incredibly effective.................enough to plant itself in my brain......................(and that's a great cover).......................
