My dad used to work in a computer room just like that. At half term I used to go in and *help* him do the punch cards. It was years before I realised that he was humouring me and had thrown out all the cards I'd created. If he hadn't, Portsmouth City Council would probably have ground to a halt.
I used to have this particular book as a child. I do believe it sparked my interest in computers, leading to my buying a zx81 when I had a paper Round :)
